Harley G. “Buddy” Babb Jr., 83, of Fountain Inn, a retired pastor and counselor, died Nov. 23, 2007.

Born March 1, 1924, Babb was a veteran of the European Theater in World War II. He was wounded multiple times and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster for his service.

After returning from the war, he was called into the ministry and graduated from Furman University. He studied at Erskine Theological Seminary and had further training in pastoral counseling and chaplaincy at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Babb served as pastor of Crestview Baptist Church, Fountain Inn; Poplar Springs Baptist Church, Moore; and Arcadia First Baptist Church, Spartanburg.

After leaving the pastorate, he was chief of counseling with the Greenville County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission until retirement. After retirement, he continued to serve as interim pastor at various churches. He was ordained into the ministry at First Baptist Church, Fountain Inn, where he later continued to serve as a Sunday school teacher and substitute pastor.

Babb was predeceased by his wife, Ruby Runyan Babb. He is survived by two sons, eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
