Share Jesus

Don Kirkland

It was a pleasure to attend our recent state Baptist convention and watch the orderly fashion that our denomination conducts business. I do have a serious concern over one statement that was made, though.

During the debate over how the budget should be allocated, the moderator stated that 52 percent of South Carolinians are lost and that the best way to reach them is by keeping more money at home and giving it to our institutions. I am not opposed to giving our institutions more money, but that will not win South Carolinians to Jesus. Until church members start sharing the gospel, we will not win South Carolina for Jesus.

The Cooperative Program is one of the greatest ideas ever devised by man to support our institutions and missionaries, but it has made Southern Baptists lazy in sharing the gospel of Jesus. We gave our part, so we can sit home and watch television or whatever.

Baptists have led the way in evangelism for many years. It is time we as individuals return to our roots and start winning South Carolina for Jesus.
