It has been my joy to serve on both the General Board of the South Carolina state convention and the State Board of Missions for the Alabama Baptist State Convention. I have seen the Cooperative Program dollars sent from our churches do wonderful ministry work in our individual states, in America, and around the world.
The Cooperative Program was designed to allow us to join together to do more jointly in all three areas than we could do separately. The individual state conventions have a vital role in God’s kingdom work. Please never under estimate or fail to appreciate their value.
Baptists in our state convention meetings normally vote to allocate a slight percentage more to the ministries in state because the SBC in Nashville receives Cooperative Program money from all state conventions, while each state convention only receives money for their vital work from the churches in their particular state. That makes good sense to me, and it has worked well for us for many years.
