The 2008 Woman’s Missionary Union annual meeting will be held March 14-15 at Fairview Baptist Church, Greer. Under the theme, Crossroads, this year’s meeting will include program guests Kaye Miller, national WMU president; Geoffrey Hammond, North American Mission Board president; and Jim Austin, South Carolina Baptist Convention executive director-treasurer, among others.

“We have really put together an exciting program,” said Evelyn Blount, executive director-treasurer of the South Carolina Woman’s Missionary Union.

“This will be the first time the WMU audience will meet both Dr. Austin and Dr. Hammond, both new to their positions,” Blount said.

Blount stressed the program will include elements of celebrating past achievements while looking ahead to future goals. Special recognition is planned for the 100th anniversary of Royal Ambassadors, which was started by WMU, and the 25th anniversaries of both Camp La Vida and the Baptist Nursing Fellowship.

Blount, who is retiring at the end of the year, will also be recognized during the Friday session at 1 p.m. Gail Hodson, current WMU president, noted that in addition to the formal recognition, attendees will also have an opportunity to speak with Blount later Friday afternoon.

“This is the first of many opportunities this year we will have to thank Evelyn for her service and what she has done for the kingdom,” said Hodson.

“The Woman’s Missionary Union is at a crossroads in missions in America and South Carolina. We live in a changing culture, and we want to come together and look at the crossroads of the world,” said Blount.

The meeting will begin Friday, March 14, at 9 a.m. and will conclude Saturday, March 15, at 1 p.m. No pre-registration is required for the meeting. Log on to www.scwmu.org for more information.
