Charleston Southern University is launching a campaign called “Love Gives” to give assistance to benefit Union University in Jackson, Tenn.

“We are asking for students, faculty, staff, and coaches to give cash gifts or gift cards that will be sent to Union,” said Robert Ratliff, dean of students at Charleston Southern.

Union University in Jackson took a direct hit with a recent tornado that destroyed much of the campus. More than 80 percent of the residence halls were destroyed, along with most of the students’ vehicles and their personal possessions.

Charleston Southern also planned to give all of the proceeds from its home basketball game with High Point University to the “Love Gives” campaign.

“Union is a sister Baptist university, and these students need our help,” said Ratliff. “Miraculously, no one was killed in the tornado, although there were many injuries. This is a wonderful opportunity for our campus to demonstrate the love of Christ to those who are hurting and in great need,” he said.
