Roy Forrest, 78, of Taylors, a long-serving pastor and consultant for the Southern Baptist Convention, died Feb. 10, 2008, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
A native of Greenville, he was educated at North Greenville College, Furman University, New Orleans and Southern Baptist seminaries. He served as a U.S. Army medic during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired Baptist minister.
Forrest was ordained to the ministry by Overbrook Baptist Church in 1962. He served as pastor of Collins Creek Baptist Church, Murrells Inlet; Maple Heights Baptist Church, Greenville; Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, Union; and Locust Hill Baptist Church, Travelers Rest, where he retired in 1991. He was installed as pastor emeritus of Locust Hill in 1999.
Forrest served three terms on the South Carolina Baptist Convention’s General Board and 20 years as a Discipleship Training consultant for the Southern Baptist Convention. He served as moderator of North Greenville Baptist Association. He also served on the board of advisors for North Greenville, Gardner-Webb, and Campbell universities.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Martha Cobb Forrest, four children and seven grandchildren.
