Students, faculty, and staff at Anderson University traveled to New Orleans, New York and Myrtle Beach during spring break, March 17-21, to assist existing ministries with meeting the physical and spiritual needs of people in those areas.
New YorkA team of 20 returned to New Orleans, following a mission trip there last December, to work with the homeless and continue construction efforts with NOAH Rebuild (New Orleans Area Housing Rebuild), a ministry of the North American Mission Board. The team took 30 beds that were donated for use in a homeless shelter. Robert Cline, vice president of Christian life, commented, “Our desire is to demonstrate to the people of the Gulf coast area that they have not been forgotten and we won’t stop with one project. Our view is that as long as there is the opportunity to give ourselves to the people in need and students continue to express a passion to serve, we will go.”
Team leaders Greg Allgood, campus pastor, and Danielle Bunner accompanied five students to New York City to work with pastor Aaron Coe at the Gallery Church. The team assisted with the HIV/Aids testing project sponsored by City Uprising, a program developed by the Gallery Church which is responsible for the largest single HIV testing effort in NYC history. The team also helped with an art benefit fundraiser to raise funds for City Uprising’s projects.
Twenty-five people, including team leaders Liz Walker, David Vroblesky and Becky Walker, spent four days in Myrtle Beach working with inner-city children in conjunction with Intracoastal Ministries under the direction of director Peter Copeland.
