Twenty-five youth and six adult leaders from First Baptist Church, Laurens, participated in a clean-up project at Martha Franks Retirement Center May 17. They cleaned up around the pond and cleaned out around the azaleas that “Miss Martha” had planted many years ago before the center opened. It was much needed, and the residents at the center were happy to be able to safely get around the pond. The effort is part of the youth’s desire to better their community and to prepare for their mission trip to Waveland, Miss. The youth and adults worked for about six hours on the project. Tommy Cox, the youth minister at First Baptist, planned and coordinated the project with Dina Hair of Martha Franks.
