Life experiences inspire title for Chesterfield woman’s autobiography

The Baptist Courier

Ruth Adams

Ruth Adams, a member of Chesterfield Baptist Church, Chesterfield, has published her first book at the age of 91. “I’ll Remember Jesus” is an autobiography and includes devotions – which she chooses to call “lessons” – that she taught her daughter as a child and throughout her life. In both parts of the book, Adams shares the many struggles she has faced during her life, some of which include the Depression (which left her family in poverty) and health problems (including a life-threatening battle with cancer in 2003). But with a strong faith in Jesus Christ and much determination, Adams has overcome those obstacles.

The inspiration for the title, “I’ll Remember Jesus,” was a result of surgery that Adams was to have when her daughter was almost 4 years old. She was very concerned about what to tell her daughter in case she did not survive the surgery. Adams finally decided to ask her daughter that if she “slept for a long time” would she remember Jesus. When Adams asked her, her daughter jumped up in her lap, gave her a hug and said, “I’ll remember Jesus.”

Adams has now fulfilled her dream of writing this book that she wishes to share with others in the hope that they will not get discouraged and give up – regardless of how difficult circumstances can be – but instead will always “remember Jesus.”
