Terry to lead multiplication team at South Carolina Baptist Convention

Wayne Terry has been tapped to lead the new South Carolina Baptist Convention multiplication team. He began duties July 24.

Wayne Terry

Terry, originally from South Carolina, most recently served as the church-planting team leader in the Tennessee Baptist Convention. He has previously served as a church-planting strategist for Waccamaw Baptist Association in South Carolina and served in a similar capacity in Tennessee before leading the church-planting team. He has also planted several churches and has authored “Church Planting: Is It For Us?” a church-planter recruiting manual.

“Our committee was very impressed with his knowledge of the state of South Carolina, its churches, and the South Carolina Baptist Convention itself,” said Glenn Taylor, chairman of the search committee for this position. “We envisioned that his previous experience would pay dividends in earlier productivity due to previous relationships and personal knowledge of South Carolina Baptist churches and associations.”

The multiplication team, which was formed as a part of the new staff reorganization in April, includes church multiplication, collegiate ministries and a group ministering to various ethnicities including Hispanics.

The convention’s Executive Board approved the new team and staff reorganization in the April meeting. The addition of the multiplication team brings the total number of teams serving the convention to five – including church vitalization, evangelization and missions, communication and mission development, and mission support.

Taylor says Terry has a unique blend of experiences including work with college students, which make him a distinctive choice for the position.

“The church plant of which his family has been a part in Tennessee has a large percentage of college students – . Our committee felt these experiences of seeing the value of college students, along with his experiences as a Baptist Student Union director while in college, should be of great benefit to Wayne.”

Taylor expressed the committee’s confidence in Terry.

“Wayne Terry’s knowledge and experience in church planting coupled with the fact of his good working knowledge of South Carolina make him ideal – for the position.”
