Saluda Association volunteers do mission projects in Kentucky

A team of 80 volunteers from Saluda Baptist Association, located in Anderson County, helped lead more than 25 people to Christ. The group traveled to Corbin, Ky., on July 12-18 and was divided into smaller groups such as construction, Vacation Bible School, sports clinic, prayerwalking, haircutting, and worship teams.

“While many of the 76 churches do mission projects each year on their own, this was one project all of our churches would be invited to work together on,” associational missionary John Dill said.

The number of participants was based on accommodations. Thirty days prior to the cutoff date, 80 people had registered and more were on the waiting list. These volunteers included 19 churches who gave either financially or personnel-wise to this project.

Not only were there 25 professions of faith, “including the week after we left where the main harvest was reaped,” Dill said, “but here are some of the benefits that we gleaned as an association of churches: we got to know each other better as we worked hand-in-hand with each other, we ministered in teams of old and young alike, we learned to trust God for our needs, and we can do missions here in Anderson just like we did in Kentucky.”

Some even walked away saying they would like to take their children on a mission project like this one – “mentor missions,” he added.

“Associational missions is doing missions together to build his kingdom,” said Dill. “This project was truly one of the highlights of our 38 years of ministry, and we look forward to our next mission as an association.”
