
The congregation of Roper Mountain Baptist Church, Greenville, held a dedication service for the new sanctuary Sept. 7.

Dot Duncan was honored Aug. 3 by McMillan Memorial Baptist Church, Marion, where she has been pianist for 30 years. A plaque was presented by Leroy Griffin, chairman of deacons. Pastor Frank Campbell also presented a monetary gift on behalf of the church. Duncan’s late husband, Ed Duncan, was pastor at McMillan Memorial prior to his death in 1988.

The children of Cavins Baptist Church, Woodruff, performed “Down by the Creek Bank” Aug. 31 during the evening worship hour. The stage was set to depict God’s creations “from the creek bank to all creatures great and small.” The message was clear as the children sang, “Love is a very special thing – it has no beginning, it has no end, But I like it best when it’s shared with a friend.” The children’s choir is directed by Phoebe Waddell.

Bradan Tench, center, recently finished a summer internship at Eureka Baptist Church in Anderson. He worked with the minister of youth and children in all aspects of ministry and ended the summer by preaching his first sermon Aug. 3. After the sermon, Tench was given a plaque of appreciation for his hard work. With Tench are Daniel Royster, left, minister of youth and children, and Ron Fousek, pastor.

Trinity Way Baptist Church, Greenville, recently held its first Vacation Bible School. The VBS, which went through the 5th grade, had an enrollment of 109, an average attendance of 94, and recorded one salvation. Dennis Holtzclaw serves as pastor of Trinity Way.

Backyard Vacation Bible School at Faith Baptist Church, Ridgeland, resulted in 22 salvations and four other decisions. Also, $1,400 was collected for the church’s Christmas Stocking mission project.

Volunteers from Bethel Baptist Church, Williamsburg Association, spent the week of July 7 in Rogersville, Tenn. This was the second year the church has been involved with the ministry “Of One Accord” led by Sheldon Livesay. The 26-member group was divided into teams that shared in the painting and restoration of a home (bath and living room), serving meals on wheels, working at the Shepherd’s Center – a unique, self-supporting thrift store and food distribution center – and serving meals to kids on the “Lunch Box Bus.” The church was seeking an interim pastor during this time, and Buck Baxley, a layperson, stepped forward and coordinated the trip with help from the church and Livesay.

The congregation of Ridgeland Drive Baptist Church, Six Mile, burned its mortgage Aug. 31. The note was paid off in seven years. Participating in the ceremony were (l to r) Tom Jones, interim pastor; Frank Kelley; Martha Holliday; Jim Holliday; Virgil Merck, founding interim pastor; and Greg Stewart, deacon chairman. Ridgeland Drive was chartered in 1999.

Jonesville Baptist Church, Union County Association, honored Becky Rochester Quinn, second from right, for 25 years service as pianist, and Edelyn Moore, center, for 30 years service as minister of music. Quinn was presented a plaque and a love offering to be used for the purchase of a keyboard for her home. Moore was presented a plaque, a love offering and other gifts of appreciation. The congregation of Mechanicsville Baptist Church, Darlington, and pastor Frankie Tanner, far right, celebrated the addition of 10 new members by baptism Aug. 31. This brings to 64 the total number of baptisms for the 2008 calendar year.

Pastor Tom Sees led a mission team to Jamaica in July to conduct Vacation Bible School, an eyeglass clinic, and rest home and community visitation. The team included members from First Baptist, North Augusta, and Hebron Baptist churches.
