The 23rd annual “Bring-a-Kid” race night at Darlington Raceway will be held Friday, May 8, with the running of the NASCAR Diamond Hill Plywood 200.

Tickets are $12.50, which covers gate admission and a meal. The deadline for reservations is April 15. The event is sponsored by Welsh Neck Baptist Association (visit welshneckassn@aol.com or call (843) 383-4566).

A pre-race rally will begin at 5:30 p.m., led by Barry McGee, CMA comedian of the year. Reserved seating for the race will be in the Tyler and Pearson towers. The checkered flag drops at 7:30.

“The mission statement of ‘Bring-a-Kid’ is to witness to the fans by presenting ourselves as the Christian race fans among the lost race fans,” said Tommy DeWitt, coordinator for “Bring-a-Kid.”

He said he hopes adult leaders planning to bring kids to the event will “spend time in prayer for opportunities to witness” and not just be interested in cheap tickets.

Darlington Raceway is celebrating 60 years of racing in 2009 with the return of the Southern 500.
