Invest a week, plan a year. That’s the goal for participants in the first annual Preaching Boot Camp, planned at Anderson University May 18-22. The event is sponsored by the university, the South Carolina Baptist Convention, and Preaching magazine.
The theme for the 2009 Preaching Boot Camp is “Planning Your Preaching.” Stephen Rummage, Michael Duduit and others will provide practical insights and counsel to help participants learn to develop an effective preaching plan that will save them time and energy while making their preaching program stronger.
The program will feature practical training sessions on planning, developing biblical sermons, and more. During the afternoons, participants will be able to work on their own preaching plan for the coming year.
“Many of the pastors who attend will be able to head home on Friday afternoon with most of their preaching year already planned,” said conference director Michael Duduit, dean of the Graduate School of Christian Ministry at Anderson University. “It may be the most practical week of training many will ever experience.”
In addition to sessions on how to plan a year’s preaching and how to develop strong biblical sermons for today, participants will enjoy a series of Bible studies based on the 2010 Winter Bible Study, led by Ryan Neal, chair of AU’s religion department.
The keynote speaker for the week is Stephen Rummage, author and preaching pastor at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte, N.C. Rummage was formerly an assistant professor of preaching at Southeastern Baptist Seminary.
Other speakers include:
? Michael Duduit, founder and executive editor of Preaching magazine. He is the author of several books and directs the National Conference on Preaching, the International Congress on Preaching, and produces PreachingNow, a weekly e-mail newsletter.
? Mike Glenn, senior pastor of Brentwood Baptist Church in suburban Nashville, Tenn., one of the fastest-growing congregations in America.
? Ryan Neal, assistant professor of religion at Anderson University.
Total cost for the event, including registration, materials and meals, is $195 per person. Participants wishing to stay on campus can obtain housing for an additional $100 for four nights.
