Evergreen Baptist Church, Effingham, hosted a R.E.A.C.H. conference Feb. 21. R.E.A.C.H. is a missional church growth strategy that delegates church-wide prayer and outreach responsibilities, involves every active member, and allows for flexibility in scheduling. John Ewart, director of professional studies and distance learning and associate professor of missions at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, was the conference speaker. Ewart is responsible for all online and extension center studies, the doctor of ministry program, and works to develop and direct specialized degrees for international missionaries and church leaders. He was also a trustee for Southeastern prior to his employment by the seminary. From left are Sunday school director Calvin Benton; Ewart; and Evergreen pastor Quinn Hooks.

 

Eight members of the youth group from Nebo Baptist Church, Gresham – along with adult leaders Cindy Dennis and Terri Williams – made their yearly visit to Judgment House, which is sponsored by Marion Baptist Church.

 

First Baptist Church, Varnville, presented teacher Bibles to faculty and staff of Varnville Elementary School. Charleston Baptist Church held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new children’s development center/choir suite. Burton Campbell was ordained to the ministry Feb. 15 by Pine Pleasant Baptist Church, Saluda, where he serves as pastor. His father, Dennis Campbell, pastor of Sardis Baptist Church, Saluda, gave the charge to the church. Lowell Clark, pastor of Dry Creek Baptist Church in Johnston, gave the charge to the candidate. The North Greenville University concert choir plans to make a stop on their spring concert tour at First Baptist Church, Lancaster, Wednesday, March 25, at 6 p.m. The concert choir, under the direction of Barry Combs, assistant professor of music at the university, will perform in six churches across the Southeast – including a concert at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. The choir will return to the Tigerville campus March 31 to present a free homecoming concert, which is open to the public.

On Feb. 1, the youth of Centenary Baptist Church, Marion Baptist Association, enjoyed a cookout and craft time. Airport Baptist Church, Greer, held groundbreaking Feb. 15 for its family life center. The 13,500-square-foot facility will include offices, classrooms, and a gymnasium. Flint Ridge Baptist Church, Heath Springs, baptized 34 people on Feb. 1. The baptismal service followed a week-long revival with guest preacher Todd Gandy, in which about 50 people made professions of faith. Flint Ridge pastor Kelvin Hinson said he was thankful for the “drawing power of God upon the church.” Hinson also baptized 11 people in January.
