At least 227 people committed their lives to Christ during a “Homeland Harvest” crusade May 17-20 in York County. Several Baptist churches in the area took part in the outdoor event, which attracted more than 1,000 people on the final night of services at York Comprehensive High School’s football stadium.

“It was an incredible week,” said Carey Caldwell, pastor of Central Baptist Church, which cosponsored the event with Eastview Baptist Church. “This was the first time in 20 or 30 years that our community has had an area-wide event like this.”

Evangelist Ken Freeman, from San Antonio, Tex., preached during the week. Forrest Ministries, of Montgomery, Ala., played a “key role” in coordinating the event. Gary Cox, of Forrest Ministries, directed a community choir of 50 members representing 12 area churches.

Caldwell said several other churches were “vital” in helping with the crusade, including Hillcrest Baptist, Union Baptist, Bible Covenant Community Church, Broad River Baptist, and Haven of Rest Baptist.
