Mike Thompson, pastor of The Journey, a church plant in Greenville, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 11 years ago. He tells the story of his struggle and how Christ released him from fear of the disease in a book, “Dealing with the Diagnosis.”

“Hearing the diagnosis was bad enough, but no one explained to me the difficulty of living with such a diagnosis,” Thompson said. “Although I believed in God, I had difficulty living the promises that God had given to me about my future.
“I have realized that many church members have a difficult time when they receive the news of an unexpected diagnosis. This book is not just a story of my battle with MS, but a story to encourage others how to deal with the unexpected diagnosis that will come in life.
“As believers in Christ, we are not bound to that fear. As we deal with the diagnosis, we will find freedom, and even joy, in unexpected places of life.”
Thompson, who is available to speak at area churches, is a graduate of North Greenville University and Rockbridge Seminary. He and his wife Karen have two children, Michaela, 11, and Marissa, 9.
