I understand what the study from “New Buildings, Services Lead to Growth?” focused on, but I must say, our church has grown within the past five years without expanding.
Within that time, our attendance has grown from about 115-120 in average worship service attendance to more than 180 this month. I’m no mathematician (okay, I’m a musician, and that’s close), but that’s a 50 percent increase.
What have we been doing? As Rick Warren says in his book, “The Purpose Driven Church,” “riding the wave” of God’s working. I know that anointing, spiritual fervor and willingness to do God’s work outdo any building fund or additional worship service.
As I said before, I understand the reason for the survey, but the church is a body, not a building, and God’s Holy Spirit will work any time at any place.
