Upstate woman’s book asks hard question

The Baptist Courier

Christy Upton, a writer and minister’s wife from Williamston, has published her first book, “Come Away with Me.”

Based on a story but expanded to include a study and study guide, the book deals with the question: Would we give up everything – even the good things God has given us – in order to follow Jesus?

“The Lord began to stir in my heart a few years ago concerning what it looked like to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ,” Upton said. “Would I leave everything and go?”

The story begins with a woman who has everything – a Christian home, a family, job, house and great church – but is not satisfied. One day she meets Jesus on the beach, and he calls her to leave everything and follow him. She is forced to choose between Jesus and the “good things” in her life.

Upton calls “Come Away with Me” a “divine romance” that deals with the tension that comes from a desire to follow Christ while “the flesh screams to cling to even the good things of this life.”

Upton and her husband Jim serve at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Easley, where he is minister of family life. She writes the curriculum for her church and writes for Shine 96.7 radio station. The Uptons have three sons.

Upton’s book is available for purchase at Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble or at authorhouse.com.
