Wilbur T. Reid, 94, of Bethea Baptist Retirement Center, Darlington, who served as a pastor for more than 55 years, died April 19, 2009.
Born May 25, 1914, he grew up a pastor’s son in Campobello and graduated from North Greenville College, Furman University and Southwestern Seminary.
He served the following Baptist churches in South Carolina: Mt. Joy, Pacolet Station, Mauldin, Pinewood, Peniel, Catfish Creek, Hilton Head, Mt. Armon, Lower Three Runs, and Carter’s Ford, from which he retired in 1978 before resettling in Campobello.
Reid’s first wife, Doris, died in 1980. He married May Caldwell in 1982, and began serving as interim pastor and supply preacher at a number of churches. He came out of retirement to serve as pastor of Canadys First Baptist Church in Walterboro for six years before retiring again.
He is survived by his wife, four children, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
