Historical society to focus on Anderson University at Sept. 28 meeting

The history of Anderson University will be the focus of the annual meeting of the South Carolina Baptist Historical Society on Sept. 28 in the school’s Thrift Library.

Joyce Wood, professor of history at AU, will present a lecture drawn from her research for a centennial history of Anderson, which was established in 1911 as a four-year college for women. Anderson’s president, Evans Whitaker, will discuss the university’s role in Christian higher education now and in the future.

Registration for the meeting starts at 10:30 a.m., with the program set for 11:00. Following lunch at noon, the society will continue its program at 1:00. A lunch provided by the university will cost $12. Dues for the historical society are $10.

The deadline to make reservations for the meal is Sept. 23. Checks may be sent to Dr. Shirley Hickson, 9 Hillington Place, Greer, 29651, and made out to the South Carolina Baptist Historical Society.
