New academic year begins at Charleston Southern University

Students have begun classes at Charleston Southern University as the school celebrates its 45th year and Jairy Hunter observes his 25th year as president.

Charleston Southern University students make the move from home to campus during opening days.

The freshmen in the class of 2013 have the strongest academic credentials of any class in the university’s history with more than a 3.0 grade point average. New student enrollment is 900, a 7 percent increase over last year, with approximately 670 enrolling as freshmen.

The Evening College has been revamped as the College of Distance and Continuing Education.

Academic programs added this fall include a bachelor of science in graphic design and a master of science in nursing.

The CSU Bucs will kick off the football season against the BCS national champion Florida Gators Saturday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m. in Gainesville, Fla.
