Baptist Foundation names search committee for president

William Cullum Jr., chairman of the board of trustees of the Baptist Foundation of South Carolina, has named a search committee to replace retiring president Weldon Fallaw.

Members include David Brown, Cooper River Baptist Church, North Charleston; Pamela Carroll, First Baptist, Columbia; Joe Cooper, First Baptist, Taylors; Thomas Cordray Jr., Holly Springs Baptist, Pickens; Timothy Gable, Seven Pines Baptist, Barnwell; and Frederick Payne, First Baptist, Simpsonville, who was named search committee chair.

Cullum, pastor of First Baptist Church of Dillon, said the search committee members represent churches from across the state as well as all the standing committees of the foundation. “They understand the foundation’s background and its potential for the future,” he said. “They will serve us well in identifying a new president to lead the foundation to even greater levels of service to South Carolina Baptists.”

“We intend to be prayerful and deliberate as we organize and conduct our search,” said Payne. He said the search committee has established an online survey to allow colleagues and others to “give us their insights into the foundation and the priority qualifications of our new leader.” He said the survey results will help the committee finalize the position announcement.

After posting the announcement and application process, targeted to be published on the foundation’s Web site and other venues by the first part of November, applications will be received for one month. The process of reviewing applications and identifying top candidates will occur in December and January, Payne said.

Payne said Baptist Courier readers are encouraged to complete the online survey through the link at the Baptist Foundation Web site (www.baptistfoundationsc.org). Prospective presidential candidates may download an application form after Nov. 1 at the foundation’s Web site.
