First Baptist Church of Goose Creek is celebrating its 50th anniversary Oct. 24-25.
On Saturday, Oct. 24, the church will have a homecoming festival with games, an antique car show, cake walk, live music, and the opening of a time capsule that was last unsealed 25 years ago. The following day will feature a combined adult Sunday school class taught by Edgar Boles, director of missions for Charleston Baptist Association, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a worship service with guest speaker Jim Austin, executive director-treasurer of the South Carolina Baptist Convention.
Former pastors will also be in attendance. For information, call 843-553-0488.
Sponsored as a mission of Charleston Heights Baptist Church in 1957, Goose Creek First Baptist got its start in a one-room barbershop with 12 worshippers. The church was constituted as Pineview Baptist Church with 86 members on Oct. 18, 1959, and was renamed First Baptist Church of Goose Creek in 1963. The current sanctuary was built in 1972.
The church has sponsored three other Baptist churches: Gethsemane, International and Crowfield. Billy Culbert is pastor of Goose Creek.
