Several weeks ago, we had the pleasure of spending a few days at White Oak Conference Center. As we gathered with others for the “Shepherding the Shepherd” conference, we were welcomed with southern hospitality. The staff from the convention and from White Oak had planned carefully for a wonderful retreat.
Granted, the location was not as it had been in the past. Nonetheless, the experience that awaited us was just as grand. A quiet setting, a calm away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, a time to have refreshment for the weary soul, to have fellowship with friends and gaze on a quiet peaceful lake, to reflect in its waters the wonder and majesty of our loving heavenly Father – what more could we have asked for?
The inspirational speakers spoke to our hearts, and the music lifted us up to worship and praise. The wonderful meals were some of the best – grilled steak with all the trimmings, a full breakfast each morning, barbecue and a movie for date night, and, one of my favorites, warm peach cobbler and ice cream.
I wish more pastors and their wives had taken this opportunity. Not only did they miss a personal blessing, but the lack of response may have put into question whether this event should be held again. I hope “Shepherding” will continue, no matter its location.
Thanks to Monty Hale and the staff at the Baptist building. Thanks, too, to the staff at White Oak. We do appreciate you and the work you are doing to minister to the pastors in South Carolina.
