Weldon Fallaw, retiring president of the Baptist Foundation of South Carolina, and Cliff Satterwhite, who was instrumental in developing one of the largest disaster relief organizations in the South, both received the award.

Fallaw was recognized during the Baptist Foundation’s report to messengers gathered for the 189th annual meeting of the South Carolina Baptist Convention. State Sen. Nikki Setzler presented the award on behalf of Gov. Mark Sanford.

“During your tenure, you’ve set a standard of excellence second to none,” Setzler told Fallaw. “Your life is a shining example of a gentleman who considers it a shining advantage to serve others.

Satterwhite, director of the SCBC’s disaster relief group, was presented the award during an Oct. 9-10 training session for disaster relief volunteers. Gov. Sanford wrote that Satterwhite’s “entire life has been marked by levels of achievement that have brought enormous credit to our state.”

Sanford said Satterwhite has had “a tremendous impact on the rapid increase of disaster relief in our nation and throughout the world.”
