An area-wide tent crusade, sponsored by Dillon County churches and featuring Southern Baptist evangelist Braxton Hunter, was held Sept. 27-Oct. 1. Attendance at the event was estimated at 13,000, with more than 220 decisions to receive Christ and several rededications reported.

“Many prayers were made for God to reap a great harvest through this event,” said Greg Hyler, pastor of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Dillon. “God answered the prayers of Dillon County residents and did a great work through the efforts of many churches who cooperated to advance the kingdom of God.”

One goal of the event was “for all denominations and races to come together,” said Hyler. Messages were translated into Spanish and were interpreted for the deaf.

Several Burundi people were reached through the crusade, Hyler said. He said Pee Dee Baptist Association is seeking Swahili Bibles as it reaches out to about 300 African immigrants who have recently come to live in Dillon.
