Daughter’s life and death spurs mom’s book

Martha Axmann has an urgent message to share: “Don’t wait for a tomorrow in your life.”

Axmann, who lost her 26-year-old daughter Robyn to cancer in 1991, has written a book about her daughter’s life and death in order “to turn this tragedy into a witness” for God.

In sitting down to begin work on “She Won the Race: Footprints of Cancer” (Pleasant Word, 2009) Axmann said she had to ask herself: “How could Robyn’s death glorify God and cause others, especially young people, to think about life?” She also wanted to be able to offer comfort to other parents who had lost children.

In addition to recounting Robyn’s life, Axmann’s book tells the author’s own story of faith and determination.

Axmann encourages the reader to “share your talents, run the race of life and be determined to accomplish your goal for his glory.”

A retired teacher and member of First Baptist Church, Spartanburg, Axmann sits on the board of trustees of Anderson University. She recently traveled to Romania with the There Is Hope Foundation.
