Focus on main thing

The Baptist Courier

I believe the church is called to be united for the mission of following Jesus hrist. Unity is a result of a team on mission. To follow Jesus and to love people creates a body – a church.

For more than 50 years, I have sought to lead as a pastor. My wife and I have experienced fellowship with some of the best people in the world. My first preaching was as acting chaplain on the island of Guam, then aboard a ship. We have served God on mission in various states in North America and in other countries.

My last 10 years have been spent as interim at various churches. As pastor and as interim, I have enjoyed being on mission with leaders. When conflicts come, leaders, including the pastor, can come to the cross and let conflict become challenge. Struggle, yes – conflict, no! Loving relationships can change the situation.

I pray that your church exists for unity on mission. If so, great. If not, gather at an altar and stay there until love brings you united on mission. Satan’s plans can be converted to mission for Jesus Christ. A church does not have to search for its ministry. It is available at our door and beyond.

Listen to any missionary serving overseas, and he will appeal for committed children of God in our churches who keep the main thing the main thing.
