Trusting in God’s abilities

The Baptist Courier

I know this response is kind of late considering the state convention is well past us. But I have been extremely burdened over the decision to cut our budget 6 percent across the board. I know we are to be good stewards and make smart decisions. I feel the decision that was made this year to cut back was motivated more by the world than of God.

Let me explain my thinking. I believe our God is bigger than our economy that is crumbling around us. I just don’t believe the deciding factors in a budget should be motivated by the world’s standard. I believe my God can do exceedingly above and beyond all we can ever think or imagine. I don’t believe God is worried about the economy. I don’t believe God’s bank account has gone dry. God has proven this throughout the Bible (too many examples to list here; see the Bible).

Cutting back money to be used to reach a world that desperately needs the lifechanging message of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is a hard pill to swallow. We have men and women ready to go out to reach these people, but we are lacking the faith to trust in God to supply all our needs according to his riches in glory. I also know we don’t have anything to market or expect a profit from, but I believe we have so much to give away – and his name is Jesus. I know the Bible also says his Word will not return void.

So my proposal is for our convention and churches across this great state to really seek God for the direction he would have us take. Then we must step out of our comfort zones to trust in God to supply what is needed to accomplish the mission he has commanded us to do.
