Hollis Edward Bonds, 79, of Fairview, a long-serving pastor in the Lowcountry, died Dec. 9, 2009.
Born March 21, 1930, in in Lula, Ga., he attended Charleston High and graduated from Mars Hill College and Carson-Newman University.
He served as pastor at Limestone Baptist Church in Screven Association, Great Swamp Baptist Church in Savannah River Association, and Rantowles Baptist and Westwood Baptist churches in Charleston Association. Bonds was a master checkers player, an avid golfer and played baseball at a very competitive level throughout his life.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret “Margie” Louise Ellis, six children, 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, a grandson and a daughter-in-law.
