Just published is a new book by South Carolina evangelist Frank Shivers entitled “Evangelistic Preaching 101,” which carries the subtitle “Voices from the Past and Present on Effective Preaching.”

In the book, Shivers, who recently marked his 35th anniversary as a vocational evangelist, draws not only from his own experience, but also from such preachers as C.H. Spurgeon, Adrian Rogers, Stephen Olford, W.A. Criswell, Roy Fish, Billy Graham, Faris Whitsell, Robert Coleman, L.R. Scarborough, George Sweazey, C.E. Matthews, Gipsy Smith, J.C. Ryle, C.E. Autrey, John Bisagno, Warren Wiersbe, E.J. Daniels, John R. Rice and George Truett.

The 246-page book is aimed at enhancing the preacher’s content, structure and delivery of the evangelistic sermon to increase effectiveness in “winning souls through preaching.”

Tom Johnston, associate professor of evangelism at Midwestern Baptist Seminary, called the book a “powerful resource for anyone who desires to preach the Bible as it ought to be preached.” Bailey Smith described it as “must reading for every preacher, deacon and person in leadership.” To Junior Hill, the Shivers book is “like a fresh breath of air” and could be “one of the most important books” to be published in 2010.

Shivers is a graduate of Charleston Southern University and New Orleans Baptist Seminary. He lives in Columbia. Information on the book may be obtained from his Web site, FrankShivers.com.
