Cavins Baptist Youth (CBY) recently traveled to Pigeon Forge for their annual winter retreat, focusing on God’s graciousness to them in 2009 and sharing their faith with others whom they met on the trip. CBY is led by youth minister Chris Schubach. Charles Foster is pastor at Cavins Baptist.

 

Taylors Grove Baptist Church, Lancaster, was featured in the December 2009 issue of Missions Mosaic magazine for its ministry to nursing home residents. A yearlong effort in 2008 culminated in the church providing a lap blanket monogrammed with the church’s name to each of 144 residents at a local nursing home. Pastor Chad Hope, deacon chairman James Krout, and Donnie Galloway of Liberty First Baptist Church traveled to Ciudad Victoria, Mexico, on a mission trip during the week of Jan. 10. Sponsored by Missions International, the trip was a collaboration with Lavonia First Baptist Church in Georgia. The team ministered to seven churches and four pastors, and have planned future trips in 2010. Crowfield Baptist Church, Goose Creek, has completed construction on a new worship facility. The 12,000-square-foot, 600-plus-seat worship space marked the 20th anniversary for Crowfield and was the first of a two-phase project. The second phase will include a music suite and administrative offices that will be adjacent to the new worship facility. Cogun, Inc., based in North Lima, Ohio, was planning partner and general contractor for the project.

 

Barker’s Creek Baptist Church, Honea Path, had a special music service on Jan. 31. Among the presentations was a first-time combined performance by the youth praise band and the adult choir. Music director Dale Satterfield leads the adult choir, and Ryan Boggs leads the youth praise band. The program also featured a new song by Lauren Bannister, daughter of Jeff and Cheryl Banister of Belton. Wesley Taylor is pastor of Barker’s Creek.

 

Marion Baptist Church, Marion Baptist Association, welcomed new pastor Stan Gibson (center) on Jan. 17, and honored the Gibson family with an old-fashioned pounding on Jan. 24. Shown with Gibson are Richard Marsh (left) and Jimmy Trussell (right), who were ordained as deacons on Jan. 10.

 

A ministry team from North Greenville University recently visited Cassatt Baptist Church, in Kershaw Baptist Association. The weekend’s events included a bonfire and a Bible study from Romans 12 to challenge the youth.

 

The men filled the choir on Feb. 7 for Baptist Men’s Day at Barker’s Creek Baptist Church in Honea Path. A special presentation of “Your First Day in Heaven” was sung by Dale Satterfield, Mac Copeland and Rusty Cloninger. Guest speaker for day was Jack Easterby, campus director of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at the University of South Carolina. The church hosted a number of the FCA members of Anderson School District 2. Easterby (left) is pictured with Rusty Cloninger, deacon.

 

Jane Purvis was recognized by First Baptist Church, Florence, on Feb. 7 for 64 years of service. Since 1946, she has worked with the WMU, Sunday school, and media library. Pictured with Purvis is pastor Daniel Inabinet.

 

The congregation of Friendship Baptist Church, Barnwell-Bamberg Baptist Association, recently held a special service to honor staff members and dedicate their new organ and piano. The residents and staff of Martha Franks Retirement Community recently took an interest in a roofing crew at the Laurens campus. The Hispanic roofing team from Mays Contracting Co. of Newberry withstood the cold and wind, sometimes even singing as they nailed shingles. Resident and Gideon representative Allison Pugh suggested to executive director Dina Hair that the men be invited in for a meal. Through the combined efforts of Hair, Laurens Baptist Association director of missions Reiny Koschel and Hispanic pastor Cirilio Sanchez, the men enjoyed a meal and a message in the dining room and were presented Bibles.

 

The senior adults of Fairview Baptist Church, Greer, held a fellowship breakfast on Jan. 12, with approximately 100 in attendance. Guest speaker was retired minister Henry Johnson, who shared his “ministry of laughter” with the group.

 

Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Conway, held a baptismal service on Feb. 7. Special music was provided by 11-year-old Sara Hughes of Ash, N.C. Pictured are baptismal candidate Elizabeth Cronin and pastor Lonnie Johnson.

 

Pastor Chad Hope and Liberty First Baptist Church recently hosted Liberty Elementary School’s annual Christmas program. More than 800 students, teachers and staff from Liberty First Baptist attended the event. Students were asked to bring canned goods for United Christian Ministries. The program was directed by Liberty Elementary School music instructor Lisa Stone, wife of South Carolina Baptist Convention president Fred Stone.

 

Fairview Baptist Church, Greer, recently held its annual International Missions Study. RAs, GAs, Mission Friends and Women On Mission groups portrayed the Berber people of North Africa through dress and displays, and also served food from that region. Jill Branyon of North Greenville University, who has worked with that people group, was guest speaker.

 

The youth and adults of Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church, Union, recently enjoyed a wild game dinner at the church’s fellowship building. In addition, the group presented a cake to William Mosley, who will be leaving for service in the Army.
