SCBC staffers produce prayer retreat guidebook

The Baptist Courier

Three staff members of the evangelism group of the South Carolina Baptist Convention have published “Request in Prayer: A Prayer Retreat Guide.”

The authors – Laslene Glymph, women’s ministry associate, along with Beth Moore and Yvonne Frederick, both core leaders for ministry to women – wrote the book out of a need to have a manual that would be of assistance in developing a deeper and closer prayer walk with God and an increased spiritual relationship with others.

The book was birthed out of a statewide prayer retreat held at White Oak Conference Center last year with approximately 450 women in attendance. The expertise from the event is made available to anyone interested in moving their prayer life and the prayer lives of others to a higher level of intimacy and effectiveness.

The book seeks to help believers understand that prayer plays an integral role in the life of the Christian, as modeled by Jesus himself. “Request by Prayer” begins with a study of Jesus’ prayer life. In addition, the book provides practical ideas for organizing a personal or corporate prayer retreat, including details about budget, teachers and location.

As a result of the 2009 statewide retreat, four regional prayer retreats will be held in 2010 at the following locations: Summerville First Baptist Church in April, Anderson University in July, Ocean View Baptist Church in October, and White Oak Conference Center in October. More information is available at www.scbaptist.org/women.

“Request by Prayer” is available for $7 plus shipping. For additional information: 800-723-7242, ext. 3600; 803-227-6149; or gweneargle@scbaptist.org.
