North Greenville University’s annual student-led renewal ran from Jan. 25-29 with the goal of challenging students to seek God more intimately. Speakers had a different approach to the theme of “Knowing God” when they addressed the student body.

North Greenville University student Cherie Curtis talks about “Knowing God Through Spiritual Warfare” in chapel during the school’s student-led renewal week.

The theme was chosen by a steering committee made up of campus ministry interns and chaplains. Committee members were responsible for all aspects of planning the student-led renewal, Steve Crouse, vice president for campus ministries, said.

Robbie Hall of Simpsonville, who graduated from NGU in December, spoke on many of the issues that students struggle with, such as laziness and sexual sin.

Jacob Harbin of Canton, N.C., spoke about spiritual discipline. He said many Christians are not spiritually mature because they fail to be disciplined in Bible study and prayer.

Tom Jones, a student from Waynesville, N.C., said many people try to find their identity and satisfaction in things outside of Christ, and others think they have to act a certain way for God to love them.

Cherie Curtis of Florence spoke on the topic of spiritual warfare, referencing the familiar passage in Ephesians 6 in which Paul outlines the armor of God.

On Wednesday night, several students led in worship and in special prayer for Haiti.

During Baptist Student Union on Thursday, students were treated to a production written and performed by Corie Savage of Little River and Bethany Sarazen of West Columbia. They portrayed the lives of Gomer and Ruth from both a biblical and contemporary perspective.

During a Fellowship of Christian Athletes meeting, Johnathon Moore of Easley shared his testimony and spoke about the need for unity within the body of Christ.

As a result of this semester’s student-led renewal, at least six students received Christ.
