Polly Davis, director of volunteer services, welcomed the group and thanked them for their assistance at the Home.
A wide range of volunteer services was offered over the past year including tutors, mentors, cottage sponsors, recreation assistants and those who helped with physical labor projects. The group present represented almost 1,400 people who volunteered more than 8,000 hours during the last year.
Kristen Thorpe received the Volunteer of the Year award. Daughter of staff member Dan Thorpe, Kristen has worked with the children in areas of ministry in music and Christian education.Kristen Thorpe of Greenwood was named volunteer of the year. The church group volunteer of the year was First Calvary Baptist Church in Leesville. The college group award went to the BCM of Lander University. The alumni volunteers of the year were Gene Bishop, Nolan Tolson and Mack Baltzegar.
Davis said the volunteer program is a way for individuals, businesses, clubs or church groups to assist the ministry at Connie Maxwell while helping “make a difference in the lives of children.”
