James Harrison Austin Jr., father of South Carolina Baptist Convention executive director-treasurer Jim Austin, died May 12, 2010.
Austin, 83, of Flowery Branch, Ga., passed away at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a sudden illness.
Austin was born July 26, 1926, in Weakley County, Tenn. He served in the Army Air Corps and was a retired self-employed home builder. He was a member of Blackshear Place Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Martha Jones Austin, and a granddaughter, Shellyn Austin.
Survivors, in addition to Jim Austin, include a daughter, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
