Fairview Baptist Church of Greer celebrated its 125th anniversary May 16.
At the 10:30 a.m. worship service, Jim Austin, executive director-treasurer of the South Carolina Baptist Convention, challenged Fairview members to become engaged in happenings outside the church walls, just as God urged the Israelites to do while exiled in Babylon.
Former pastors and staff members participated in the celebration, and lunch followed.
A display of historical artifacts, including cornerstones from two previous worship centers, the key to the first church, previous history books and pictorials, was set up in the church library. Also, an updated church history covering events in the life of the church from 1885 to present was published.
