Berea First, Greenville, to launch contemporary ‘Discovery’ service

“Discovery” is the name of a new worship service at Berea First Baptist in Greenville. “Discovery” also describes the experience that led the church to begin a new service, said pastor Ronald D. Vaughan.

“The church’s existing service, which many would call ‘traditional’ or ‘blended,’ has met the spiritual needs of many people for many years,” Vaughan said. “We began hearing from our church family that they would be more effective in bringing unchurched friends to worship if we also offered a more contemporary service geared to reaching people who haven’t grown up in church and may not understand the worship many of us have known and loved.

“The discovery that we needed a new way to reach new people led to months of prayer and planning and the decision to begin the new service Sept. 12,” Vaughan said.

The Berea pastor said the purpose of Discovery is to “help lost people discover the joy of worship, the strength of friendship, and the saving love of Jesus Christ.”

“The discovery that led to the new service is transforming our sense of mission in many areas of church life,” Vaughan said. “We’re learning that the church is here to find people where they are and guide them toward faith in Christ.”
