Pastor to Pastor – by Brad Whitt

The Baptist Courier

As the dog days of summer cool down, the 2010 South Carolina Baptist Convention Pastors’ Conference is just beginning to heat up. I’m really excited about our theme and program for this year, and I believe that this day will be a great encouragement to pastors from all across our great state. Our theme for this year’s conference will be “He Is Able!”

Brad Whitt

As I’m sure you are very aware, we are living and ministering in days in which many people (both in the pew and the pulpit) are discouraged and defeated. There are financial concerns and physical concerns which rob us of our joy and our strength. Our families are attacked on a daily basis. Our churches are facing the most difficult days of serving Jesus and sharing His love with a lost world that I can ever remember. I hear reports almost daily of pastors who are quitting, pulling back, burning out; whose marriages are fraying at the edges and falling apart. I don’t have to go into any more detail for you to already understand the point that I’m trying to make – things are difficult in many of our families, churches and cities.

But even more than that, I want you to know that whatever the situation, He Is Able! Most of us are very familiar with Hebrews 7:25: “He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him.” However, our Lord is not just able to save, He’s “able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think.” He is able to subdue all things (Philippians 3:21). He is able to secure all things (2 Timothy 1:12). And He is able to strengthen all things (Hebrews 2:18).

I want to encourage you to make every effort – and invite everybody you know – to join with me and pastors from all across this state on Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at Riverland Hills Baptist Church in Irmo. This is going to be a great day of worship and fellowship, of preaching and mentoring, of equipping and encouraging. There will be messages of hope and encouragement, testimonies of God’s faithfulness in the most difficult of circumstances, and powerful preaching from the Word of God from some of our nation’s most gifted and effective pastors.

My prayer after you’ve joined us on Nov. 15 is that your heart will be encouraged, your mind will be challenged, and your spirit will hear a clear word from the resurrected Lord and know what He is able to do in and through your life and ministry.

I look forward to worshipping Jesus with you then.
