
Tony Atkinson, director of church relations at Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, spoke to the Joyful Heart senior adults of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Hemingway, on Sept. 2. The group presented to Atkinson three large boxes of school supplies for the Connie Maxwell children.

First Baptist Church, Harleyville, celebrated Grandparents Day on Sept. 12. The service featured special singing, handbell music and Bible verses by the children and youth to honor grandparents and great-grandparents in attendance.

Bruce Chrysler was licensed to the ministry by Slabtown Baptist Church, Easley, on Aug. 29. He has been active in ministry to senior citizens’ groups and schools in the area, as well as sharing the gospel through devotions and demonstrations on how to build wooden long bows and arrows at Hagood Mill in Pickens. A group of North Greenville University students ministered at Lakewood Camping Resort in Myrtle Beach over the summer. Six members of the school’s Baptist Student Union music ensemble, Joyful Sound, led in several types of ministry ranging from leading worship and children’s ministry to hands-on work for the campground’s recreation department. In addition, the group opened in concert for Lynda Randle, a soloist on the Gaither Homecoming tour. The team helped lead nearly 300 people to Christ over the course of 10 weeks. Allie Candler, left, a retired Southern Baptist missionary, celebrated her 101st birthday on Sept. 18 with family and friends at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Community in Laurens, where she resides. Candler served both with the Home Mission Board (in Virginia) and the Foreign Mission Board (in Kobe, Japan). Although she is legally blind, Candler enjoys good health and says she praises the Lord for his blessings and “his wonderful love and care.” She is pictured with her sister, Dorsie Fowler, 99, who recently was honored by her church, Mt. Airy Baptist, Easley.
