Book compiles Batson’s columns

The Baptist Courier

“From My Life’s Journey – with Heaven as My Destination!” is the title of a newly published collection of newspaper columns written by Lloyd Batson, retired pastor of Pickens First Baptist Church.

The columns, which appeared in The Easley Progress from 2001-2004, were compiled by Jerry Vickery, retired publisher of the Progress.

Vickery, owner and president of Barn Yard Art, which published the book, wrote in his introduction that Batson “has a unique way of writing about ordinary daily experiences. Through his Christian insight, Dr. Batson turns these experiences into extraordinary inspirational, sometimes humorous, masterpieces for us to enjoy and relate to.”

Vickery said Batson’s “realm of influence far exceeded the geographical area of the city of Pickens.”

Batson became pastor of Pickens First Baptist in 1956 and served there for the next 33 years before retiring in 1989. He and his wife Joy live in Easley.

Vickery said proceeds from the sale of “From My Life’s Journey” will go to the Baptist Easley Foundation.

The book, priced at $29.95, is available at Pickens First Baptist Church, Easley First Baptist Church, Poor Richard’s Bookstore in Easley, the hospital gift shop, or directly from the publisher at jvickery3@yahoo.com.
