North Greenville University held a dedication ceremony for the recent gift of a 1793 Broadwood pianoforte donated by NGU alumni Francis Alewine and his wife, Doris, from Taylors.
The instrument was purchased by Alewine while serving as a naval chaplain in England from 1964 to 1967.
Tom Strange of Easley was chosen by the school to restore the instrument to its original condition.
Strange spoke of the history of the instrument and his process of restoration at the dedication ceremony, where he gave it a final tune-up in preparation for a special performance by NGU faculty and students.
The pieces performed on the pianoforte were from the period contemporary with its creation. – NGU
