The senior adult choir of Ashley River Baptist Church, under the direction of H.S. Yarborough, toured the Upstate and the mountains of North Carolina Oct. 20-22. The group sang at Berea First Baptist Church in Greenville before visiting the mountains.

The congregation of Cordesville First Baptist Church, Moncks Corner, celebrated their 108th homecoming Oct. 17 with guest speaker Keith Vaughn, son of former pastor Ed Vaughn.

The Girls in Action of Northside Baptist Church, Orangeburg, recently collected supplies for missionary Marshal Bundren of Indiana.

Good Hope Baptist Church, Conway, celebrated being debt-free on Aug. 15 by burning the mortgage on its Christian Life Center. The facility includes a multi-purpose area for banquets, recreation and large gatherings, as well as three offices, four classrooms, restrooms, kitchen, and additional parking. Cost of the construction was $750,000. The church broke ground for the Christian Life Center on Nov. 5, 2005, and dedicated the building on Oct. 7, 2007. Ashley River Baptist Church, Charleston, recently began a ministry for members who are unable to participate in church activities due to health problems. “SAM” (which stands for Semi-Active Members) consists of church members with special needs who are “adopted” by other church members and are provided with transportation and other services. In addition, the deacons provide an opportunity for SAM members to take the Lord’s Supper, upon request. Pictured is an “adopted” member who is being fed by a SAM volunteer.

 

Olivia Looper Bryant, 96, of New Hope Baptist Church, Pelzer, was the oldest attendee at the annual Senior Fall Retreat at the Springmaid Beach Resort in Myrtle Beach, Sept. 27-Oct. 1. The event hosted approximately 650 senior adults from 44 churches, most from the Upstate. Clyde and Jayne Porter of Washington Baptist Church, Pelzer, coordinated the event, which included singing, preaching, Bible study and day outings.

Youth from seven churches in the Conway area recently joined North Conway Baptist Church students for their second annual “Saw You At the Pole” rally. Special music was led by Russell and Kristi Johnson, and special guest speaker was Coach David Bennett from Coastal Carolina University. More than 120 young people attended the event.
