Students serving breakfast to others on Christmas morning

The students of Northside Baptist Church, West Columbia, won’t be sleeping in or opening gifts on Christmas morning. Instead, they will be up early, making pancakes and serving breakfast to members of their community.

“Northside wanted to have this pancake breakfast to meet the needs of our community and remind them that the only gift that truly matters hung on a tree for them over 2,000 years ago and is alive and well today,” said student minister Mike D’Attoma. “We simply wanted to share Jesus through some pancakes and a warm building on Christmas morning.”

More than 200 middle and high school students at Northside are committed to being the hands and feet of Jesus in their communities and schools, D’Attoma said.

“I remember waiting patiently for the clock to hit 6 a.m. so I could run downstairs and tear into my presents that Santa had brought me. I remember jumping for joy over toys that were for me. It was all about me. Unfortunately, that is what Christmas has become to many – gifts under a tree.”

The breakfast is free and will be served in the Christian fellowship center at Northside from 8 to 10 a.m. For more information, visit http://www.northsidebaptist.org or call 803-796-9786.
