Thanksgiving was a brighter day for 175 families in the Williamston-Pelzer area, thanks to the efforts of Christian Men United in Prayer, a trans-denominational group of laymen.

The men gathered early in the morning of Nov. 24 at Williamston’s Mineral Spring Park to cook turkey breasts – some of them smoked, many deep-fried. The turkeys were packed in boxes along with with cans of corn, green beans, stuffing and gravy mix, macaroni-and-cheese, yams, cranberry sauce, rolls, and dessert. Bibles were also provided. The boxes were delivered to homes of the less fortunate in the community.
Twenty-four churches (including several Baptist churches), along with individuals, chipped in with side items or with cash and helped make the deliveries.
All leftover non-perishable items and a cash donation were given to Operation Care, a community food bank supported by churches of the Palmetto Baptist Association.
The members of Christian Men United in Prayer meet on Tuesday mornings at an area restaurant to pray for specific needs in the community.
