Hoax is ridiculous ploy

The Baptist Courier

It is madness that the story of the “bum” at the Baptist College of Florida (Dec. 23) even exists. Is this what we promote in the SBC? Do we resort to hoaxes – staged, phony performances by “actors” – to move us to guilt and then action? It’s fake. Such manipulation of events like this in order to teach students preparing for ministry is a joke. They’ll just go to their future churches and do the same to their people – God’s people. And when that trick wears off, what will they do then? Why not get a stripper to show up at the campus to get everyone guilty about gospel outreach to that lost subgroup? And then after that, a homosexual making passes at students who walk by? There is no end in sight to what you can do to hoodwink people for ministry.

What about teaching these men to preach the gospel? Sadly, I wonder if many of these students will be faithful preachers of God’s Word to the saints in the local church. I wonder if they won’t just use ridiculous ploys like this to get the job done for whatever it happens to be at the time – witnessing to bums or anyone else.

I think the people who orchestrate these kinds of tactics have no credibility. I do not believe God is pleased with them. And that this story even made the newspapers proves to me that there is little gospel discernment with SBC newspaper editorial staffs. Everyone involved should be ashamed.
