Von Reynolds will be the featured speaker Feb. 17 at a conference designed to raise awareness about opportunities for faith communities to reach out to family caregivers.

The event, “Respite Solutions 2011: Inspiring Faith Communities! Reaching Family Caregivers!” will be held at St. Andrews Baptist Church, Columbia, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Reynolds is pastor of Seneca Baptist Church and is the parent of an adult son with Down syndrome. He has served on the Executive Board of the South Carolina Baptist Convention and is a trustee for South Carolina Baptist Ministries for the Aging. He also serves on the Board of Disabilities and Special Needs for Oconee County.

The event is open to caregivers, church leaders, social workers and counselors, and anyone interested in learning about how to serve caregivers. The conference will offer information on creative ideas for congregations and others to serve caregivers, ways to persuade and teach family caregivers to accept help, and resources for families who provide care for people 24 hours a day.

The cost is $25 per person (before Feb. 1). Special rates are available for family caregivers. For more information: http://www.screspitecoalition.org/, screspitecoalition@yahoo.com, or 1-866-345-6786 (toll free).
