I am not young, and I am Southern Baptist. However, I do know that our forefathers are not men like Jerry Vines and Adrian Rogers. Our forefathers are men like Basil Manly Sr., Basil Manly Jr., J.P. Boyce and John A. Broadus. These are the men who founded our denomination. I do not disrespect Jerry Vines and Adrian Rogers – in fact, I heard Jerry Vines during my years at Gardner-Webb University – but I must point out that they were not alive in the 1840s when our denomination was established. Rev. Boyce, who founded Southern Seminary, was a graduate of Princeton University, which was Presbyterian.
