Waccamaw Baptist Association Woman’s Missionary Union will sponsor “Human Exploitation Awareness: Come Hear!” March 26, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Hosted by Wampee Baptist Church, the free conference is designed to acquaint Christians with ways of praying for and responding to the issue of human exploitation in their own churches, work places and neighborhoods.
Sherri Smith, a deputy with the Horry County police department and a former victims advocate, will be keynote speaker.
“In the past, WMU leaders recognized the need for Christians to give a positive response to critical issues,” said Peggy Jones, spokesperson for Waccamaw WMU, “including hunger, AIDS, child advocacy, cultural diversity, violence, literacy, restorative justice, and poverty.
“The current initiative, human exploitation, flows naturally from the condition of poverty. The ministry initiative for 2010-2012 covers six issues, including exploitation of natural resources for personal gain; bullying, cyber-bullying, queen-bee bullying; human trafficking, labor; human trafficking, sex; media’s exploitation of children and families; and pornography and sexting.”
